SOME ACCESS MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS
While battles rage over platform and software selection for legacy externalization
and integration, integrators need smarter, more granular/modular "connectors"
that work with established framework providers (e.g., BEA WebLogic, WebSphere).
In 2001, we expect more modular legacy access products from traditional Web-to-host
vendors (e.g., back-end IMS transformation connectors), plus significant refinements
to legacy data access.
For example, CICS TS 1.3, coupled with HostBridge, can provide XML output for
HTTP-driven CICS transactions, uncoupling data from 3270 screens non-invasively.
While offerings will provide various scalability levels and integration, most
users should still consider them as point solutions within chosen frameworks.
Bottom Line: During the next 12-18 months, users will incorporate numerous
legacy access enhancers, but they must be consistent with chosen application
integration frameworks.
